Our next RotRL Session

It was requested that maybe we could fit in another RotRL session between now and the New Year but after looking at my schedule, that really does not seem possible. We just have too much going on with the holidays, out of town family and celebrating Sarah's and my birthdays to be able to clear a day to spend gaming.

The only other date that was still open to me was Saturday, 12/22, as Sarah wants me out of the house to do some Christmas prep.Brian has other plans. I am also leaning on taking my uncle and Danny to see the Hobbit on that day.

I guess that leaves us with picking a date for January. Right now, other than Sunday, 1/6/13, I think any weekend day would work.

An interesting development

Paizo has dipped their toes in sactioning Adventure Path material for PFS credit. They are starting with the RotRL Anniversary edition and the current Shattered Star APs. You can check out the announcement here: http://paizo.com/paizo/blog/v5748dyo5le7p?Sanctioning-Adventure-Paths-for-Pathfinder

I need to do a bit more research but I think that our Saturday game may qualify for credit under the following in the announcement:

"Alternatively, if you are participating in a Pathfinder Adventure Path with an ongoing home group undertaking the entire campaign, you may receive credit for playing the sanctioned portions of the adventure as if you had played a pregenerated character. In this case, GMs running the Adventure Path are not bound to the rules of the Pathfinder Society Organized Play campaign when running the campaign or the sanctioned portion of the adventure. Pathfinder Society characters and characters from an ongoing Adventure Path campaign may not play in the same adventure."

I believe that this means that I can give you credit that you can apply to a new pregen. More information to come.

Level Up!

As of the end of last session, you have achieved 14th level. Please level up.

You have also found a way to escape the Runeforge and have made it to Magnimar. You have the opportunity to sell loot and purchase equipment. Please remember to purchase any needed expensive spell components and/or foci. Several spells require diamond dust (Stoneskin, Mass Stoneskin, Restoration), bloodstones (Signifer’s Rally), holy water and silver dust (Consecrate), eye ointment (True Seeing), 5,000 gp diamond (Raise Dead), etc. There are likely more but these are the ones that came to me top of mind.

Next game - Sunday 12/9/12

Our next game will be this coming Sunday 12/9/12. We will be at Bruce's house and will start at 2:00. It sounds like everyone but Matt F can make it.

If Matt H is bringing a pinch gamer, he can play Matt F's character. (We will need a current copy of the cleric.)

Trying to plan a Saturday game for December

I have thrown out the following dates as possibilties:

Saturday 12/8 or Sunday 12/9 (next weekend)
Sunday 12/16 
Saturday 12/22

Bruce is back on days so we may not have some of the potential scheduling issue we had for the last few months.

Can we make any of these work or should we start planning for next year?

Our Next Game Session

Right now the dates on the table for our next games are Saturday, November 17th and Saturday, December 1st. What is everyone's availability for each? If we get enough folks available for each, do we want to try to plan both dates?

You will go up to 14th level soon. This will happen after completing the next section of the Runeforge that you pick. I expect that it is very likely that will happen next session. If not then, it should happen during the session after next.

Next Game will be Sunday, 10/28/12

I have 5 confirmed played for Sunday, 10/28/12. As far as I know, Paul is the only one who will not be able to attend.

As usual, we will be at Bruce's. The start time is around 2:00 PM and the end time will be around 10:00 PM. We will figure out food for dinner while we are there. Getting delivery worked out well last time.

November Feast Game?

I know we are still trying to nail down our October date but I was wondering if we will be able to have our November feast game again this year?

What we need to determine are:

• A date for the game
• Who plans to bring what
• If Paul can make it in person

The actual weekend of Thanksgiving is out for me (11/22-11/25). How does Saturday, 11/17/12 look for folks?

Last year we got chickens from Sam's Club rather than a turkey. Did that work for folks? I can do that again and bring corn bread.

When can we game next?

It was good to see everyone yesterday and to actually get some gaming in. I feel that we made reasonable progress. I hope it was challenging and that everyone had fun.

The next proposed date on the table is Sunday, 10/28/12. Check your calendars and see if that will work. Remember, I would need a minimum of 5 players to run.

I expect that if we can get in another long session that next time we will be able to complete the current section and likely one but possibly two more depending on which ones you pick. It is entirely possible for us to finish this book by December or January. It just depends on progress.

This month marks the 4th year anniversary of our game. I would like to thank everyone for sticking with it and making it an enjoyable experience for all. Your characters have come a long way since the Swallowtail Festival in Sandpoint so long ago.

Reminder: Game this Sunday

We are playing our RotRL game this Sunday. I would like to get started at 3:00 PM. As far as I know, we will have all six of our current players available. We will get Paul connected with whichever video chat works the best for him.

We ended last session at the start of a fight and will pick up there.

Doing the math and looking at the guidelines from the revised Anniversary Edition, you will level up once the fight is concluded. That means that you should have a 13th level ready or close to ready so that we can keep playing. You will likely level again before the end of the year (assuming we get in a few more sessions).

Next RotRL Game Will be 9/30/12

I believe that I have received confirmation from Matt H, Matt F, Bruce, Dan and Brian that Sunday, 9/30 will work as the date for our next game. That is 5 players so I will book it. I still have not heard from Paul.

Let's plan 3:00 PM at Bruce's on Sunday, 9/30/12.

Sundays 10/14 and 10/28 are both looking promising as well. I believe that we have 4 players for each. Dan is still not sure and again no word from Paul.

Dates keep filling up ...

We need to plan some game dates so we can play our RotRL game. My calendar keeps getting full and I expect the same is happening to many of you.

The weekend of 9/21-23 is now a no go for me. We have plans to be out of town again.

Saturday 9/29 is out as we will be going to Ren Fest again with Danny. I might be able to make Sunday 9/30 work but it is likely a stretch. I will run it by Sarah and see how she feels about it.

Saturday 10/6 could work but it is also the same weekend as our scheduled Sunday game. Not saying it is out but that much gaming tends to eat the weekend.

Saturday 10/13 is out as that is Steve and Angela's Halloween Party. Friday 10/12 or Sunday 10/14 might work.

Saturday 10/20 looks great right now. Sarah is scheduled be out of town and I do not believe that I have any other obligations.

Friday 10/26 is U-Con. I am trying to swing going for that afternoon/evening.

Saturday 10/27 is now out. I am going to Michigan Beerfest at Eastern Market. Sunday 10/28 could work.

Do any of these date work/not work with the rest of the group? I would like to schedule at least one but two dates would be nice. If we cannot get everyone together, I am also open to a PFS session or two.

Need to schedule our next RotRL date

OK. Gen Con is over and summer is almost gone too. It has been too long since we played our game.

That said, we need to set a date for our next RotRL session. Based upon my calendar right now, I believe I can make any of the days on the weekends of 9/21-9/23 and 9/28-9/30. (Saturdays 9/22 and 9/28 are the ideal days but the others could work.)

How do the schedules for the rest of you look?

We are down to Matt H, Dan, Brian, Matt F, Paul and Bruce as our core 6 players. I need a date where at least 5 of you can attend. Please try to post to the blog so that everyone is included.

Our next game

I believe that we have enough players that have committed to playing our RotRL game on Sunday, 7/15/12. I would like to start around 2:00 PM.

Gaming Superstitions

There’s a scene in the role-playing documentary The Dungeon Masters where one of the subjects, Scott, is sorting and arranging his hundreds of dice. As Scott’s doing this, he’s talking about how the dice need to be touched so that they’ll gain some of your personal vibrations and roll well; then he starts to talk about the die that roll poorly. Those die are separated from the rest, dipped in water and put in the freezer. Once the offending die is frozen, all of the other dice are lined up and the frozen die is placed in the middle so the other die can “see” it. Scott then smashes the frozen die with a hammer as a lesson to the rest of his dice. “This is what happens when you roll poorly!” he shouts at the rows of unshattered dice.

It reminds me of my old superstition.  I'd start with rolling all of my dice of one type, eliminating all that rolled equal or under half their top value. (10 or less on a d20, 2 or less on d4s) I'd repeat this process over and over until I had a set of dice that had rolled only their top numbers 5-10 times in a row, and I'd start the game with those dice, removing any that failed me too many times as the game went on.

Anyone else got any superstitions? :)

Next Week's Game

Still looking to confirm if we have enough players for 5/18/12. If everyone that committed to the date previously, minus Joe, is able to make it, we should be fine. Matt F is in. Still no idea about Dan.

Are we still good for 5/18/12?

We had 5 confirmed players (Matt H, Joe, Brian, Paul and Bruce) for the game on Friday, 5/18/12 but now I am hearing that Joe has join the crew of a boat. Are Dan and Matt F available? Is this still good for the rest of you?

If so, we will play at Bruce's starting at 7:00 and will run until about 12:00.

If not, I would consider running a PFS scenario during the same window.

Saturday will not work for Matt H (unspecified) and Bruce is not available on Sunday (work).

May is Fast Approaching

I have received positive reports from Brian and Joe for the weekend of 5/19/12. I expect Bruce is free. I need at least 2 more positive responses to finalize the date. That means I am looking to hear from Matt H, Dan, Matt F, Paul and Randy (if he is still alive).

Looking for a date to play in May

The weekends in May seem to be mostly full. How does Saturday, May 19th look as a date to play RotRL next?

If not that Saturday, do either that Friday (18th) or Sunday (20th) work?

Game This Saturday

We are scheduled to play this weekend. Saturday at 3:00 at Bruce's house.

I have commitments from Matt H, Joe, Brian and Bruce to physically in attendance. Paul will be joining via web cam. I have not heard a recent update from Matt F. Five is enough to play but we hope that Matty can make it.

Your characters are still 12th level but will likely go up after this session. I still need to do the math to be sure.

Game on!

The game is on for Saturday, 4/7 at 3:00. We are playing RotRL and everyone is still 12th level.

Paul will be joining us via web cam. He will be playing a fighter and will be joining the party on an ongoing basis as Joe will be leaving us.

Of the bunch, this one is fairly up to date. I am not sure that I can commit to providing a recap for every session. I have considered removing them as I am so far behind. Any requests or suggestions for material you would like to see?

This AP sounds very interesting. The first part should be out at Gen Con. This would be a cool follow-up to the RotRL game we are currently playing. I know Matt H is kicking around running Kingmaker when we finish but this might be fun too.

Need to pick a date

We need to pick a date for our next RotRL game session.

Looking at the calendar, my work schedule and consulting with my wife has left me with the following days:

Saturday, 3/24/12
Saturday, 4/7/12 (This is the Saturday before Easter.)

I may be able to move to a Friday or Sunday based upon player schedules. The date that works best for me is the 4/7/12 date as Sarah already has plans without me.

Next Session

I would like to schedule our next RotRL session for Saturday, 3/3/12.


Let's plan for Bruce's at 3:00-12:00 per usual.

This will likely be the last session for Joe for a while. As a result, I have asked Paul to join us from Chicago via web cam.

All this comes with a caveat … I have been having trouble with my vision. For those who do not know, I am seeing distortions from my left eye (even when closed) on a periodic basis. It comes and goes. It makes reading and typing difficult. I have seen the eye doctor and he did not find anything. He is referring it back to my regular doctor. My doctor is out until Monday. I will see what she has to say then.

I will do what I can to make Saturday work. I just do not know at this point.
